    Default Merc short?

Had this happen yesterday, when I turn the key to start, the starter stays engaged even if I turn the key off. Had to disconnect the negative from the battery to get it to stop. Touch the Negative back to it's post and she sparks a bit.

    Any guidance?

Bad switch or solenoid if it has one. Check for a starting solenoid before the starter.

Think NAPA would have a solenoid?

NAPA should be able to get the part. Also try ebasicpower.com

Check key switch also. get a test light and see if the lead coming to solenoid goes off when you let off key.

Also get some lube and lube the bendix on starter and in key switch. Graphite works well and stays in place.
