When using a GPS/sonar,where is the best place for the unit,up front or on the console.

Closest unobstructed location to the transducer IMHO.

Default If the unit has an internal antenna...

then the determining factor would be where do you think you will need the gps function the most. Most of the gps/sonar units will only get you in the neighborhood anyway. You need to mark (w/ bouy) specific spots as you will find it very hard to get back w/ gps alone.

I have on unit w/ gps at the console and I have another sonar w/o gps up front.

where are you going to use it the most? I needed mine more for speed while trolling but I also needed it to find spots I have droped tops so I ended up with 1 up front and at the console 520c.

    Default gps

locate it where ever you will use it but make sure the gps antenna has a clear view of the sky.
