    Default Tach Quit????

Any thing inparticular to look at on the tach. I noticed the other day it quit working when we where on our way back to the ramp the tach wasnt working. Ive got a 90 horse merc, and know absolutly nothing about a tach on an outboard. Thanks

First thing to do is look for anything obvious. Like a broken or loose wire. If that all looks good check your charging circuit. Either use a meter by checking the battery voltage with the motor off then again with it running. You should see an increase in voltage. Or if your depth finder is connected to the starting battery and can display voltages, use that to check the same way.

Most likely a voltage regulator, That is what feeds the tach... common problem with a merc..

A tach works off an AC pulse from the stator. The connection is made at the rectifier/regulator simple because its convenient and the same leads feed the rectifier. When a diode shorts out in the rectifier it kills the feed to the tach.

good point! this may also stop your batt from charging off the motor!
