    Default oddball techniques

Ok folks, fess up. What is the oddest thing you have done that worked?
One of many that comes to mind for me is pulling a 1 1/2 ounce
bottom bouncer rig with the trolling motor about 1 mph in November,
tipped with a 3" curlytail grub on a floating jighead. The trick that made
it work was rigging a stinger hook (#10 treble) so that it swung freely
about 1/2" behind the extended tail. Wore 'em out several times doing
this, and almost every fish was hooked on the treble only. Was pulling
it along the bottom in 30 feet of water alongside the main creek channel
in one of the state park lakes I sometimes fish. Have had luck too using
a modified Kentucky rig, using two grubs with little foam bait rig floaters
ahead of them. You can cast out, let it hit bottom, and then slowly
pull the line tight, then slowly release allowing them to float back up
vertical - sort of jigging them in place. Lets hear some more off the wall
    stuff!

I fish bridge columns alot and sometimes have had to pitch my jigs upward and let them hang over the backs of the columns and slide down and back in a hanging pattern to catch fish, sometimes this was the only way they would bite. I found this by accident and learned from it.

hey Pete, you been to Pickwick lately? Our association is fishing Wheeler next weekend, but we will try our luck on Pickwick in September. Maybe they will start on their fall patterns by then.

Well...I reckon the oddest thing I've ever done to catch fish was tying a styrofoam cup to a nice keeper crappie and turning it loose to head back to the school...all I had to do each morning was find the cup and I was on the school...a "poor man's fishfinder"?.....BTW, you gotta make the leader at least 4-5 ft longer than the lake is deep.....

    Default odd ball

I too use to tie a bobber to a crappie and let it find the school for me. I found this by accident one day when I was bobber fishing and got broke off. The only problem with doing this is when the crappie swims back to the tree pile and gets hung up with the fishing line in the tree. This will work if you are fishing in the grass or weeds, but not to good if fishing trees. I would take an over sized bobber and tie it on the line but had the line short enough that the fish couldn't get back to the tree pile and stayed just above it. It seemed that it brought other fish out to it.

thanks crappieseeker, I know nothing about fishing bridges, so you may
have to draw me a picture are you actually letting your line lay over
a piece of the structure? Not sure I understand.

sounds like fun, do you remember if they were mostly black crappie or not?
seems like about every time I've caught one bream fishing with a worm,
it has been a black - usually makes me say to heck with the bream and
    start crappie fishing!

If you throw your line out, throw it so that it swings around the corner of the column and let the weight of the jig drag it down into the water slowly. It will move back or down or sideways in a swinging motion. If the column has a footer on it under the water, also drag your jig slowly against it. Come over here to TN and I'll teach you how to fish a bridge.
