I got a laugh out of this, but it made me think too -
Last Saturday morning I was making a trolling pass, pulling planer boards,
and went by a couple of boats. One of them looked like they were tightlining, so I swung wide around them, but the other was a big bass rig and they were idling around looking at the sonar I suppose - I caught the biggest crappie of the whole weekend (15"+) shortly after I passed them,
and one of them said something, the only part of it I heard was "walleye
fishing". It made me think about how much I have picked up from reading
about walleye fishing - more than from crappie reading. Those guys up
North have had years of experience dealing with the things I do -
precision trolling, direction and speed control in rough water, and figuring
out how to find and catch from a small number of fish in a large volume
of water. The "bottom bouncers" they use have been useful in some
situations crappie fishing for me, too. After I got on by, the guys in the
bass rig went right over to the spot where I had caught the fish and
started furiously zig-zagging back and forth looking at the sonar, big
Merc growling and spitting blue smoke - durned carp fishermen!
