bait rigs
I have a couple of those that I have never unwrapped -
what they are is a pre-tied rig for catching baitfish.
the ones I have are I think 6 feet of about 10 lb mono with
little "flies" spaced every couple of feet. They have a loop on
one end to tie your main line to, and a snap on the other to put
a weight on. I saw one show where they were catching herring
to live-bait stripers with, and instead of a weight, they put a big
diving plug on it and pulled it right behind the boat (trolled).
I bought them to catch shad and skipjack below Pickwick dam,
but have never got around to using them. Got them out of a Offshore
Angler (Bass Pro Shops) catalog. I have thought about getting some
with bigger hooks and trying them on crappie - the ones I have use tiny
little hooks about like our number 14 or 18. The hook sizes on them are
confusing - must be some sort of Jap or Euro sizing - the hooks get smaller
as the numbers get smaller, backwards of our small hook sizes.
Mine are called a number 6 or something, but they are tiny. The ones
that look like they might work for crappie are called a 14 or 15,
and look to be about the size of our number 6 hook. Where did you
hear about them? Is somebody out there already using them for crappie?
