Default Hardy update Mar 19 2009

Managed a few at Hardy this week before the cold front. Fish are running good quality...and seem to be relating more to the timber now than shallow bank. Only caught 3-4 that were under 10 which I tossed back. In this batch of 16 , 5 were 10 - 11 inches...and the rest were bumping up to 12 or slightly over with one at about 13 inches. Saw people catching them with spinner baits, jigs under bobbers, casting jigs. Most of these were in 4-8 ft of water.... and glued to the underwater trees. Lots of folks out with kids due to spring break. People we talked to said they were catching them several different locations, had to work for them , but for the most part they were running nice size. Water was 50 deg in the morning, and 55 in the afternoon. I'm sure someone out there is catching their limits...but I was pleased to get these.

When you say they are relating more to the timber are you talking about the area of trees out across from the Wooster ramp area. Nice bunch of crappie!

I won't be at Hardy this weekend. I expect some fishing reports back from you guys though. My guess is with the colder weather they may be hanging a little deeper along creek channel. I would probably start in shallower water / timber in the upper lake area and work way back to wooster checking out timber there, and not to forget checking out cedar cove. Make sure your hooks are tickling the wood... let that bait (whatever it is ) drop as close to the timber as you can. Hopefully the wind will be calm enough for you to see the underwater tree tops. Good luck to you all.

It's in the eye family... so your close. Tomorrow's target might be an actual walleye, but I haven't decided just yet.

Thanks for the report Hog Daddy, I am going to fish Hardy tommorow. Hopefully I can get as lucky as you because the freezer is empty.
