Last year on Weiss things were a little slow so we started tipping with orange minnows. They have a name for them in Bama but I'm not sure what it is. The bite seemed to pick up and the next day both guides we used had them on their boats. We used them the rest of the trip and did well.

    Default Worth the Hassle

Minnows are more work but I believe they are worth it when things are slow...

Fairly new to trolling, but do like to tip jigs. No imitation is as good as the real thing. Gives off more natural scent, flash, movement. I believe good minnows will begin to quiver and move fearfully when fish are approaching.

I hook them through the bottom of their chin and out the top lip to keep them from drowning while pulling.

On a clear day, I will troll them with just a jig head.

On warm day and actively feeding fish, probably not required in shallows.

I tip everything with a minnow or a crappie nibble. The orange minnows are called rosy reds I only used them once I like the tuffies myself.

Yes a lot of people tip with minnows in shallow water, I normally just switch jigs untill I find the one they want.
