I doubt that your boat calls for a long shaft. That alone will slow you down considerably. Properly mounted, the anti cavitation plate of the motor should be within 1" of being even with the bottom of the boat.
Guys, I just found a new Yamaha 4ph long shaft for a great price. My boat is a 300lb 14v bottom. What kind of speed should I expect from this motor and would there be much difference from a Tahatsu 6hp? Thanks for the info.

Hey Chief, my new boat is a 20" transom so it would require a long shaft motor. I have been reasearching motors and it seems that the little 4hp Yamaha is not well liked. Not sure why, I thought Yamaha is the next thing to a Honda.
