    Default Outboard Question

My motor leaks fuel out of the top of the carbs when not running and tilted up. I think the floats are sticking and allowing fuel in.

I know i need to probably re-build the carbs but in the meantime.

Could I put in an inline shut-off valve between the ball and motor to keep the fuel from getting to the carbs when its parked??

or should I just unhook the line eventhough gas squirts out on me??

Might sound silly but check the vent on your fuel tank and make sure it is venting. If it isnt it will build pressure from the fumes and expansion of the fuel in the warmer weather and force fuel into carbs. It may vent through the fuel cap so it could be just as simple as losening the cap to see if you hear pressure release. If so find where the fuel system vents and make sure the vent is working.

When you get your boat on the trailer, unhook the fuel line from the tank and let it run dry while the lower unit is still in the water.

Then you shouldn't have that problem and the carbs bowls should be dry. I would unhook the fuel line from the motor not the tank. If you're unhooked (gas tank to motor) then you shouldn't have a vent problem.

ok so to just go ahead and show my ignorance....

When i disconnect the fuel line should there be pressure on it....its sprays fuel for a second kinda like popping off an air chuck..just not that hard.

I have metal fuel tanks is the vent in the cap?
