I have been experimenting lately with pushing jigs out the front with the
gas motor - with big weights, multiple jigs. Bought a couple of the 14'
B&M Pro Staff trolling rods, as they were advertised specifically for this -
think the ad said they were tested with a 5 ounce weight up to 2 mph.
Do any of you do this (who are willing to talk about it) and what kind of
rods do you use? I am new to this, but it seems to me that the rods are
not quite all they were blown up to be. 5 ounces puts one heckuva bend
in them, enough I'm afraid they're going to break. I would think that fiberglass would be more appropriate for this, but the ones I find either
have no guides, or really cheesy ones, same for the reel seats.
Somebody spill the beans, please!

Been doing basically the same thing except out of back of boat and using crankbaits, that is vertical fishing with heavy weights. I use 3-4 oz. inline trolling sinkers, the only rods I could find that would stand the speed, the hang ups and the stripers & catfish were Cabelas Whuppin` sticks (Shakespeare Ugly Sticks) while you are right the guides are too few they are as tough as any I have ever used. Overcame the poor guides by buying a complete set of spinning guides and adding them between the existig guides, effectively doubling the amount of guides. Not a perfect solution but works pretty good. Hope you are better at winding guides than I am, looks a little rough. Hope this helps. Possum1
