    Default Reelfoot

I'm thinking of fishing Reelfoot more this year since its closer to home than the Mississippi Lakes. I can be there and home the same day easily. I haven't fished it in a long time. Can anyone give me some pointers? Where to start, Jigging, trolling, ect. What baits?
    Thanks

    Default Reelfoot Lake

I rented a duplex there last year right there at the lake, it was great.
If you are gonna be fishing it in the spring, I would fish the mouth of the ditches and on into them a little. The ditches connect different parts of the lake , get you a hot spots map, they sell them at Bo's landing bait shop there at the lake, also buy your minnows at Bo's, they will last longer.
Also fish the edge of the old lidy pad stems in the northern part of the Lake.
The northern part of the lake will be probably be best the first of spring, because it's more shallow and will heat up quicker.
If you go after spring, troll out from Green Island Point you'll see all the boats out there. Also straight out from Bo's Landing I was telling you about, there are stumps everywhere under the surface.
I almost forgot, I would use jigs in the spring til it gets kinda hot and then I would try both and see what they want.
If you want to know anything else about the lake, let me know maybe I can
    help.
    Good Fishing..........Gary

It's a great lake -- one of my favorites -- but honestly, I've only fished for bream (bluegill) there. I know there are some pigs in there as far as crappie go, though.

I'd highly recommend considering a guide for your first trip. I would get one if I was crappie fishing there. The open water over the stump fields looks great for spider-rigging, dipping around the cypress trees looks great, the grass along the ditches look great, etc., and you begin to think you don't know where to fish because it all looks so good. Having a guide would add some logic to that process, at least for me.

Good luck. If you do stay there, we've had great luck with Southshore Resort in Samburg. You may want to get some input from the fellas on the Tenn. board, too.

I always had better success in the northern part of the lake also. Fished a couple of Crappiethon tourneys there. That tells you how long it's been since I fished it. Good luck.

Speck, I fished it a few times last year. I had good luck up in the north end.
I was putting in at the ramp up by the Air Park and going all the way over the east side. Was fishing for Gills with a small jig tipped with a wax worm, crappie wouldn't leave it alone. I was fishing the edge of the pads and the holes in the pads.
I love that lake, most of my relatives are from around there, been going down there since I was very young.
