    Default Transducer question ?

I have a portable Humminbird depth finder with a suction cup on transducer. Does it matter if it's mounted on the side on the boat or the back of the boat ? Will the display be 90* off if mounted to the boat side ? Does this make sense ? -Thanks

It will work fine in either place.

I agree. Just make sure it's pointed STRAIGHT down. Otherwise the cone angle wont be right under the boat.

Most transducers are shaped in a way that works best off the transom or your forward trolling motor. Also, on the side it's more likely to get hit by debris.

You will likely wind up hating that suction cup. It keeps coming off. What I do is take a strip of aluminum about 3" wide and 24" long. Then I bend (breaK) the aluminum strip to slip over the transom. You wind up having a 16" (the height of your transom) runnning down the back, 2" (the width of the transom) over the top, then it breaks (bends) downward on the inside of the transom about 6". It just slips on and hangs there. Then simply rip off the suction cup and throw it in the garbage. You can mount the transducer to the aluminum strip with simple cable ties. I have made many of these for friends and mine has lasted for 5 years with PLENTY of abuse.
If you don't have access to the aluminum, let me know and I can make you one in about 5 minutes.

A transom mount will serve you better if, for no other reason, it will shield the transducer from brush and the like.
