Crappie rod jigging and trolling

I am new to the board and crappie fishing and am considering buying the 9 or 12 ft rod and reel combo from cabelas for vertical jigging, and maybe the slow trolling presentation I have seen. What is anyones thoughts on these setups and could i use it for both vertical jigging and the slow trolling?

I just use Wally Marhshall 14' rods, ultralite spinning reels w/ 6 pound High Vis line. For pushin' jigs, I like this setup. 14' rods are a pain sometimes and for that reason a good 12'r would probably do as well.
