Well since I use a Drop Shot Rig when fishing with minnows...I use a #1 or #2 Gamakatsu Drop Shot Hook. I think some of the new packs say Drop/Split Shot Hooks, but they are the same thing.

If you don't know what that is I posted in the last couple of days what Drop Shot Crappie is.

    Exclamation your choice ....

I've used hooks in sizes from #8 to 1/0 ..... but, generally use a #1 Eagle Claw light wire bronze.
Now, when I have a minnow on a jighead ... I'm usually casting with it, but do drift/troll with this setup, on occasion.
I used to use "gold" hooks all the time ... but I was using 8-10lb line, too. Now that I've gone down to 4-6lb mono, I prefer the bronze light wire (since I can bend them open with the lighter lines, should they get snagged).
Just my preferrences ... I'm sure others have theirs. .....luck2ya ...cp

    Default hooks

I'm with the above, Gamakatsu drop shots for open water and
light bronze aberdeens for snaggy stuff - the Eagle Claw # for
these is 214 EL, if memory serves correct.

I was using the gold Tru-Turn hooks, but I find them very hard to remove them from a fishes mouth or worse yet, if they inhale them. Too many casualties trying to unhook them. No doubt they hook well, but I hate seeing the throwbacks floating 20 minutes later. Plain ole' thin wire hooks for me.

I use size 2 and 1 depending on the size minnow and/or fish in the body of water I am fishing.

    Default Hooks

Lately, I've been using Blood Red Tru-Turn and Wally Marshall Hooks with minnows. I've always used brass hooks before, but lately the red hooks outfished brass 2-1.

TIP: I put a Grubco wax worm or red spike on the hook BEFORE hooking a minnow through the lips. This makes it appears that a minnow is busy feeding and an easy meal with a side dish for the crappie.

I use the Eagle Claw #8 Extra light wire, long shank cricket hook. When used with 8# test line, it is easily pulled free from the brush when hung up.

I use tru-turn #6 or #8 but I am beginning to thing that the straight shank aberdeen hook works better when trolling. I fish 4# line all of the time so I lose a lot of hooks and jigs but I think the lighter wt line will catch more fish.
