Default Knot used for tieing a jig to your line???

I've talked to several people over the years about how they tie their jigs to their line and have heard several different methods and always wondered which way would catch the most fish. One recommended a loop knot and said it makes the jig move more freely. Another recommends tieing a palomar or trilene knot and cinching it down tight as far back on the eyelet and downward toward the hook as you can get. He said this would make the jig stay perpendicular with the line and thus be more lifelike. I have used both methods and the loop knot is easier but I wonder if it is the best method. If you have any opinions or wisdom on this subject I would appreciate it.

Started using the palomar last year and love it. good action, easy to tie and easy to add more jigs to a standing line.
I release all my fish... just before my fingers touch the grease.

    Default Palomar Knot

I Myself Like The Palomar Knot And Have Been Using It For Over 30 Years. Holds Jig Nice And Horzintal.. But I Don't Try To Put Loop Line Through Hole All At Once, Just Single Line Through Then Bring It Back And Go Through Again, Then Slip Over Finger Then Over Hook And Cinch Up...... They Show It The Pic To Double Line Then Through Hook Eye, Hard To Do On Small Jigs.......

I like the loop knot for the reasons you listed. And if I miss a thump, I don't have to worry about resetting my knot. I will use the Trilene or palomar in heavy brush because they are stronger and I don't lose near as many jigs.

The Palomar and Trilene are both very strong, but I don't like to use knots that go through the eye twice. I use hooks down to a #20, so these knots are not best for me. I prefer the Orvis (Becker) knot: very strong, easy to tie, and only once through the eye.

Cinch/Palomar knot for me. If I really want my jig to stay horizontal then I do a modified Palomar knot wrapping the line around the eye and then cinching it so that a loop is around the base of the eye. Don't ask how I do it, I still suck at it but when I have to I get it done.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

    Default Palomar

I use a Palomar knot 100% of the time. Started using braided line about 5 years ago and switched to the Palomar knot and never looked back!
