Have you checked the throttle linkage?
i got a 84 v-4 90 horse evinrude that i cant get to idle right. its at the shop now and the mechanic is stumped also. timing, carbs, and firing checked out fine. cant get it to idle lower than 2100 rpms. anyone have any ideas of what will cause this?
maybe air getting in crankcase somewheres?

Has he checked to be sure the throttle plates are completly closed at idle? Has he done a complete link & sync in the order listed in the manual?

the worst news ever!!!!! pulled the head and got a broke ring in 1 cylinder. got a lil water and mud in the cylinder. seems like i was hitting the nail on the head. i still think the motor is well worth it. 700 bucks for the tear down, heads worked and rebuild with new water pump, and all new internal parts.
