    Default Chowan River

First trip to the Chowan this past weekend. Was surprised to see how BIG it was. Found boats fishing in the Wiccacon River(above Holiday Island) Saturday, mostly for stripers. Saw lots of baitfish on the depthfinder. Slow-trolled with tube jigs 12-14ft over about 20'. Caught 1 crappie(10") and one 14" striper. Saw no one else catch anything.

Sunday, went to Bennetts Creek(above Holiday Island). Lots of other boats slow trolling for stripers. Ended up catching about 30 crappie(kept 18) and 8 stripers about 16". I missed the slab, got off at the boat(2 lb +).

Great day going to a new place and having success finding and catching some fish. Those crappie in that brackish water have a pretty golden color.

Talked to alot of striper guys. They were trolling grubs, catching alot of under-sized fish (<18"). They had there best luck early in the morning catching keepers as big as 25".

Will definetly plan to go back again.
    Just one more bite...please.

Happy to see you enjoyed the Chowan, we fish it quite regularly, several creeks north of the Wiccacon to fish too.
    You launched where?

We launched at Cannons Ferry just off NC32 north of Edenton.
By the way, I'd appreciate it if you could suggest other areas that are good for crappie/bass fishing. Thanks
