    Default Id bass

I caught this bass last year Crappie fishing. It doesn't look like a large mouth bass. These are South Texas fish.

It didn't have the markings like the others I have caught. It looked a little different. He was plain looking without the usual markings and brown in color instead of green. No bars down the side. Thanks.

... every now & then, especially if they come from deep water, cold water, dirty water, or very shaded water. They don't always display their dark side markings, like you're used to seeing when they come from shallow or clear water.
From the picture, it would appear that the jaw line would extend behind the eyes, confirming it to be a LMB.

It's a Kentucky or Spotted Bass. Longer and more slender. They are considered a large mouth bass but do not fall under the size limit regulations that the normal Black Bass (LARGEMOUTH) fall under. It's listed in the Texas fishing regulations. Ferdi aka Fred

... don't think I've ever seen a KY Spotted Bass with washed out colors, even those that came from deep water. It very well could be, though .... and about the only way to tell, is if the fish had a tooth patch on the tongue.
Most of the KY Spotted Bass that I've seen/caught, have been more on the short & chunky side ... and the LMB of that length/size were always the long slender shaped ones.
(whichever specie it is, I sure hope it was of legal length :p )
