    Default Male vs female crappie

At the risk of sounding stupid and inviting the obvious jokes, this is a serious question. How do you tell the difference between male and female black and white crappie?

Thanks for the link dawg. From what I gather, unless they are spawning, there's no real way to tell.

Good question, Speck. Glad you posted it. The only time I think I can tell is during spawn and I was glad to learn more about it.

Wish there really was a way. Now let me, ugh, climb up, ugh, on this soap box and, ugh, say
    1. That was a long way for an old dude to climb.....and 2. I would try and impose a regulation that stated "Female crappie could not be kept during spawning months" and ALL crappie has to be 10" minimum length". Now let me climb down off this oh, oh oh (loud thump in the back ground) soap box.

That's actually a good question Speck, The only way that I can really tell is during the spawn when the males of both species have their dark spawning colors and the females are swollen with eggs or have eggs starting to run out.
