Let the games begin. Starting now, here in February I will be placing random contests online. I will be giving products away from our sponsors. So keep an eye on the main crappie fishing message board.

OK, here's the first contest.

Provide me an original Crappie Fishing related article. Non-professional, no pro-writers. 500 word minimum, with at least two pictures included. Provide this to me before the end of March 2009. I will create a poll, and the winner of the poll will receive the following:

A brand new Color GPS Fish Finder from our wonderfull sponsor HUMMINBIRD.

Email your article to me at crappiecom@gmail.com

As a standard disclaimer to avoid arguments, I reserve the right to change rules, or be the final decision maker on all counts. I'm just trying to give away free stuff as fair as possible.

Keep an eye on the site for the next two months (and maybe longer depending on how long the prizes last). Some contests will simply be who-ever replies first to a post. Or who ever can find a specific link on the site. It'll be easy, and fun.

Wow, I just looked this up, it's a $400 fish finder. Sounds like a real nice fish finder. Anyone have any experience with one?

I have a buddy that put one on his boat last year. Aside from the small screen it's a good little unit. I was especially impressed with how accurate the gps was. We marked some spots and then tried to go back to them. It was right on. I believe it has dual beam transducer also.

It says "Crappie Fishing related" ... so, I'd say either or  (but, you might want to PM "Slab" for a definite answer (if he doesn't reply to your question, on this thread).

I will create a poll, and the winner of the poll will receive the following:

Ah, so it's gonna be a popularity contest...

Slab

It can be any type article as long as it's crappie fishing related. How to or story type. More pictures the better, you are not limited to two pics.

Email the stories to me, so that you can attach pictures, at crappiecom@gmail.com

Popularity contest, hmm, I really don't want it to be a popularity contest, I want the best article to win. I would hope that the members would feel that way also and would vote that way. Don't forget, I also have more prizes, and I can change the rules. Please have some trust in me, I will try to make sure things are as fair as possible.

With all my writin' expertise and all these Mississippi stories this is a no-brainer.

As Larry Bird always said, when in the locker room before the 3-point shooting contest, "It looks like all of you need to figure out who is going to be second".

How many times can I vote for myself?:)

The pole only allows you to vote once. At least that's how I will set it up.

Slab, will poo flinging be allowed in the contest? Cause I'm somewhat of an expert in the field. Not a professional mind you, just of an advanced skill level. Also, can I mention that pstone is really, really ugly in the story? 'Cause pstone is really, really ugly and I think that would make a good story.

Sorry my friend. No one else need to apply. I'm claiming that fish finder for my son Tony. I will be sending in my article this week. Sorry Bob #1....I know you also have great writing skills HOWEVER this young whippersnapper of a son that you claimed will also be praying for this victory. As Satchel paige said "Don't turn around someone might be gaining on you." "I'm so fast I can walk to the door and turn off the lights and be back in bed before the room gets dark."

how do we vote?

Slab
02-12-2009, 08:40 AM
I will set up a poll at the end of next month. I will post on the board when the poll is active. I will likely leave the poll up for a couple weeks to make sure everyone has a chance to vote.

Just a suggestion, but if there are quite a lot of entries, would it be possible to have two votes. First vote would be to create a list of a certain number of finalists. The second vote would be to determine the ultimate winner. Kinda like a primary, so the finalists, would have a more narrow field, allowing everyone to re-read the finalists stories and be able to vote. I noticed a few of them to be way longer than the 500 word minimum. For some potential voters, all the reading may become a bit mundane. I was just thinking that in the end, it might be easier for everyone to read a small amount of stories for the final.
If anyone disagrees with or agrees with this, please state your feelings so Ed can make a proper decision.

That is what I am worried about with my article, but to cut 300 words out willl take out too much information.
