Default Spider rigging vs vertical jigging or casting

Is it just me or is it common for others to find it hard to want to spider rig? I have to admit I have only done it a couple of times on Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma. My father is a sage at crappie fishing and he showed me the technique on two rough weather days and we caught 35 to 40 nice crappie both days but it just didn't excite me as much as vertical jigging or casting. I understand different strokes for different folks but is it all about how many you can catch with this productive technique. I just cant take it not being able to hold onto my rod and getting to feel the bite. Sure it was fun catching fish, but where's the fun if you dont feel the bite and set the hook. I guess I'm just to old to learn new tricks. I'm plenty satisfied with the 20 to 60 keeper fish my partner and I can catch on a good day vertical jigging or drop shotting brushpiles. Honestly, I am jealous of the amount of fish that can be caught this way but just not enough to change my ways.

I agree with ya totally , I live on the Atlantic coast and feel the same way about striper fishing -rather catch em casting or live lining all those guys troll with heavy gear. I want to take atrip to good crappie lake someday , but if I go with a guide I want to make sure its not at a time of the year when you have to troll I want to cast or vertical jig.

I find it tobe great for finding feeding fish, or getting dinner, but casting is the way togo for me,
alot of my buds love trolling for stripers off the NC coast, it does produce,
but bringing them in is all work, the rigs are as heavy as the fish, lol
jigging bucktails is alot more fun for me.
took this video a few years back.
    enjoy

Yea me too. I also fish alot off the coast of NC. Trolling is ok, but give me a bottom outfit and catching grouper and snapper is hard to beat. Crappie fishing for me is the same thing. I love to feel that thump or watch the cork go down. But I still do alot of trolling too. But most of my trolling is done long lining.

Love the thump but any way i catch crappie is darn fun to me.......its not always about catching i like the hunt and theres no better tool to do it with in open water than spider rigging,i cast and jig the majority of the time but riggin can be an exciting change of pace.

Didn't say trolling for what... Sounds like some folks need to get out and
    fish.
