    Default Big Bluegills

What does everyone use to catch big bluegills and keep the little 3 inchers off your hook?

Try throwing a 1/32 oz jig with a no. 8 hook and one inch twister tails. Either cast and let them sink and then reel in or use below a tiny bobber. Once they spawn, try fishing deeper water for the bigger gills.

I have been picking up a few decent sized ones just using nightcrawlers tipped with a maggot on a #10 hook under a bobber. Also small jigs (1/64th or smaller) tipped with maggot. I haven't hooked too many 3 inchers but when I do I just toss them back. If you are catching primarily small ones maybe you need to try another lake? Just a thought.

maybe if one of the little 3 inch bluegills stayed on the hook and swam out to the deeper water where the bass are........ who knows what would happen.

I went to Gissburg ponds in marysville today and i only caught 2 5 inch bluegill on a size 12 march brown fly tipped with a gulp maggot. i didn;t have a boat so i couldn;t find any good sized ones. I also couldn't find any beds. The only fish i saw were a school of bass fry and a 20 inch bass swimming near shore.
