I pull crankbaits with my big motor. I have a trolling plate to slow my speed down to about 1.3 to 1.5 mph.

I also troll with crank baits for crappie when the lake is to rough to spider rig. My tracker is real light so when the lake gets to choppy I'll switch over. Can suspend a 3-6 oz. weight off a tri swivel and pull bandit 200's about 4 ft. behind it, using it like a small down rigger. The weight allows me to fish at watever level the fish are at. Saves coming off the lake.

I almost always use my big motor (40 hp) to troll cranks with. Works very well for me.
I troll cranks with a 60 hp 4-stroke.

You may want to look at a 4 stroke if you don't have one. Ideling all day is rough on 2 strokes.

I have an 80/115 Yamaha 4S that will give me 1.7 at idle----just right for cranks. I've had an overheating problem with the motor if it idles for long periods, but hopefully the dealer has it figured out.
