    Default Pole Blanks

WHERE CAN A GUY GET SOME POLE BLANKS TO MAKE HIS OWN CRAPPIE POLES. I RECEIVE MUDHOLE CATALOGS BUT THERE BLANKS ARE JUST TO EXPENSIVE FOR MY BLOOD. FOR THEIR PRICE I CAN PURCHASE A COUPLE BnM POLES.

I don't build rods myself but there is a forum section on rod building here..

Rod & Reel building & repair - Tackleunderground

Might be a good place to get started looking....

Ive thought about the same thing. In the past when fishing for small gills and using crappie rods and fly rods i found that i hade more sensativity with the fly rod although i hate the reel placment. On ebay i have seen a guy who has listed fly rod blanks because i was looking at his 3piece #3 blanks. Unless you get a real deal i dont think its worth the trouble as it seems that they inflate the prices on bare components almost as much if not more than completed rods.

Thanks for links Treed and rnvinc. Robbor, I know, they charge so much for blanks i'm afraid of wasting my money by ruining a $50 blank.

The blanks almost all the crappie rods sold in the US are built on are made by slaves in China.

No US supplier can sell you blanks for what you can buy a complete rod for from most crappie retailers.

Exactly. B&M and all the others buy components by the thousands and can get them cheap, cheap, cheap. The only reason to build a rod is for enjoyment or if you just cannot find a factory rod to suit you. It's definitely not to save money.

Specktater, it will save you money, just not on a crappie rod.

I can't find a factory rod that I can throw 8oz of lead, 150yards. I can buy one for $480, or I can build it for $400. Custom rods are just that, custom.

You are right though, Specktater... It really doesnt come into play unless you're trying to achieve performance or make it pretty lol.
