If everyone fishes within the limit law there is no possible way to hurt crappie populations in our big lakes imho,if i catch em they get a boat ride i usually don't eat em but i've got several friends that sure will...........
I have been Crappie fishing for 35 years and just meet Charlie last year in the sparrowfoot quarry and I have to say he is one of the nicest and friendly crappie fisherman I have met in some time..... A super good fisherman also.... I have watched him many times and he will release all of the big crappie he catches, something a lot of anglers won't do. I will release 2 pound and bigger myself but them 1 and half pounds and smaller get eaten unless I have my limit then I release everything just love catching them, or out smarting them....... catch and release..........
A FISH IN THE PAN IS WORTH TWO IN THE LAKE

I only release 3lb and above to big to eat 00000 woops I lied I put a 3lb er in my pond last year. caught it at VIOLA boat dock cove... only fish I caught that day.
I think most of the tournament fisherman on here know Charlie and his boy Kevin real well.
So far I only release the 4lb plus crappie. Oh wait a second I have never caught any bigger than 2lbs But I havent been crappie fishing very long.
We have fished in a few tours with Charlie in the tour also. He's usally in the top & we're in the middle. Havent talk to him much but seems like a good person. We release some of the bigger fish.
every time I keep a big one, a bigger one moves in. And I love eating blackened crappie with Rice. My new favorite.
charlie is a super guy until you try to beat him in a tournament, then he can be a real pain.
Seem like a real nice guy to me. As far as throwing Big Crappie Back, I do but only when I'm pretty dang sure were going to catch our limits of 10 to 12 inch fish.
Charlie and Kevin are good guys and darn good fisherman. Seems like we always finish one above or one below. We give each other a hard time but I like fishing against them.
