    Default Trailer axle

My axle seems to be bent and the tires are towed out pretty bad. It's wearing the inside half of the tires out. How does one repair this themselves or where is a good place to take it for repair? What kind of cost am I looking at? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Jack the trailer up and take a look at the hubs....might be your about to lose the hub bearings which is making the tires toe out.

Trailer axles dont get bent all that easy.....if you hit something hard enuf to bend the axle you would have remembered that incident. Plus hitting something is not likely going to make both wheels toe out.

Good place to buy a new axle if you need it is a place called Scotts Bargain Barn just west of Excelsior Springs Missouri. They build trailers and might even install.

Bob, mine was doing the same thing. I took it to a trailer shop here and he told me that I had a 1 ton axle. Even though my boat is lighter than that, that wasn't big enough to handle the stress that a boat puts on while bouncing up and down. He told me to put at least a 3500 # axle underneath. I ordered one from a company in Texas and it fixed the problem. I just had to weld the spring shackles to the axle where I needed them. It cost around $120.00 with shipping.

Beagle is talking about Redneck Trailer Supplies in Springfield, good folks to deal with in the past. Like others have said more often than not its not a bent axle but worn bearings or under inflated tires that cause pre-mature wear. Good luck.

I had a Lowe 180w, had the same problem. Manufacture's try to cut corners to save money by not putting a heavy enough axle under them.

Croft Trailer are good folks too...always get good service at the store on Truman Ave.

When replacing a complete axle with hubs...make sure you get one that has the wheel seals that are rated for being submerged in water!

bwillaub, speckhunter said his axle was under spec'd for a boat trailer, got me to thinking.
So I pulled out my Champion Trailers catalog. Their smallest boat trailer axle is rated for 2,500# !
If your bearings have worn your races and your axle is ruined take a look at the Champion Trailers Spindle-Lube Axles.
The outside end of the axle has it's own lube fitting in the end of the axle. This allows you to change (or top off) the grease in the hub/ bearings without removing the hub or wheel. This is really a major advancement and they have had it for a long time. 1-800-229-6690 CHAMPION TRAILER PARTS SUPPLY
