Default Fly line on a crappie pole

When ever i go bream fishing in the back creeks and swamps I sometimes see older folks using crappie poles or bamboo poles with flyline and a fly instead of worms. The little flys are killer for bream and an occasional crappie. Does anybody know what weight line, type of flys etc. should be used. I do not know much about flyfishing, but would love to learn this method. Thanks
What's worse, to be in church wishing you were fishin' or to be fishin' and know you should be in church?

For panfish a #6 flyline weightforward will do the trick. Walmart has the rod line and leader all in one pack on special now. For bream I use a #10 popping bug in your choice of color. I also use a sinking black and red ant. The little critters will eat most anything and I have also used a 1/32 jig and curly tail brub with goos success.

In 1963 the furniture company I worked for ran a big fish contest for several species if fish. They gave away $25.00 for first $15.00 for second and $10.00 for third. I won all three places for crappie fishing a white maribou jig with a pink head. All three were over 2 lbs., largest was 2-1/2 ( no digital scales then). All three and many more were caught using a fly rod and casting the jig to standing willow bushes in very clear water. I still use the same rod today, steel eyes and all. I don't crappie fish with it. Now I use ultra light gear that I didn't have in 1963.
