    Default They Still Surprise Me

I figured the fishing would be really tough this afternoon with high pressure moving in after a huge front came through early this morning. The wind was blowing 12 to 15-mph out of the north and the temps were falling all day. If my clients would have asked me what I thought about rescheduling to a better day I would have strongly recommended doing just that. But they came prepared for the conditions and we went after them.

We had to fish tight to the cover and put our bait right in front of their noses and hold it there, which meant we had to find places to fish that were at least somewhat protected from the wind.

The bite was very light and we had to get our timing just right to put a hook in their lips before they spit out our minnows but we picked up one or two here and there all afternoon.

Towards the end of the trip one of my clients pulled in a 2-pound, 14-ounce black crappie:

It was 16.5-inches long and had a girth of 13.25-inches:

It was real thick across the shoulders and had a big ole belly:

We also caught a white crappie that was 15.5-inches long and weighed 2-pounds even:

And we had a pretty good mess when we were done:

So go when you can and don't stay home just because you think the conditions are not in your favor and every now and then they'll surprise you and make it all worth it.
    FISH ON!

Dang those two are nice, what a day for him! Just looking at those pics I would have guessed they weighed even more.
