I have been doing it that way for about 3 years now.
Anybody ever run their mainline to a snap swivel then just clip in their Kentucky Rig on?
While Im not a fan of snap swivels at all, I am thinking of running a larger lb test mainline ( I use 6, may go to 8 or 10) and then use 6lb Kentucky rigs already tied up and stored somewhere. I hate having re-tie, especially when Im by myself, while it doesnt take long, I generally get out of whatever groove I was in. With the heavier mainline, I should be able to break the leader and just snap a new one on, add a weight, and go with it.
Any pros or cons or am I just unorthidox and lazy? :D

Cool, I think Im going to start doing that. Now I just have to find a way to store them
Or I may just switch over to a carolina rig type rig, theyre just not as brush friendly. May have to venture to the C&C style, elthough Im not looking forward to it. Seems like a lot of trouble, although it may be more productive
Here is a photo of a modified Kentucky (Capps & Coleman) rig I use. I attach it to the main line with a small duo-lock snap. It is quick and easy to change weights or jigs with this rig.

I keep half of my rods rigged with a 3/8 egg or bullet above a snap swivel on the main line.
I keep the other half with just a snap swivel on the main line.
I have different pre-tied rigs rolled up on 10" sections of noodle and can quickly change rigs to match the conditions.
I used to retie everytime until my eyes went south.
Only problem I've had is that every now and then the rig will hang itself on the snap swivel.
Man, what a great idea. I always drift off my track when I lose focus while retying. Im heading to Gander Mt. in a few minutes to get "supplies". Thanks Creekslick, Panman and Splitshot.

Where do you get that twisted wire gizmo at the proximal end of the rig?
That is called a hook lear. I get mine from Jann's Netcraft
Hook Lears
If you keep the upper bait on a short leader, it will seldom tangle in the rest of the rig.
I also use lighter test line on the two leaders with baits and heavier test line from the weight up to the main line. If I get hung up, I just lose one leader and get the rest of the rig back.
I keep a box with weights and pretied components so I can quickly repair a damaged rig and get back to fishing.

I swear by the lear rigs. Eagle Claw makes a double rig you can get at wal mart. The rigs come with 2 snelled hooks (you pick size).
I save the lear parts as I always manage to screw the rig up someway or another. Since I am an old feller who can hardly zip his britches up, much less tie a good knot, I sometimes use a small paper clip and fasten the hook directly to the eyelet in the lear. Works just like a snap ring and easier for me to rig. Paper clip will pick up big fishes.
