    Default longline trolling ?

Do you need to use a swivel above a jig when longlining?

My 2 cents would be yes for sure!
I usually use a barrel swivel with 2' or so of leader to the jig. Don't like to use the swivels that clip to the lure. I do agree that most jigs (all but twist tails anyway) won't spin, but when you hook a crappie I have had them spin all the way to the boat! Depending on how much line you have out, that fish may give you trouble AFTER you catch him.

Just got my In-Fisherman mag and what do ya know, they have a little snip about this very thing.
Guess what....... they say no too. Ok ok, I'm gonna run some this summer without.
They did mention a trick I forgot about and have used before. If you do get twist in your line, take the lure off and let a bunch of line out behind the boat for a few minutes while trolling. It does work!
