Default Granddaughter got her first buck today.

My granddaughter and I went back to the Chatham lease today. We got the three does from yesterday cut up and put in the cooler. We went back to the same stand we were on yesterday, we call it the "Sticker Stand" because of a big non-typical buck with lots of stickers on his rack that I saw near it several years back. We got up about 3:30 pm and at 4:00 she was fast asleep. Some cows fed under the box stand about 5:00 and I shuffled my feet to scare them away. This woke up Skylar. She was not as cold today as she was yesterday, thank goodness. About 5:10 or so, she said, "Pop, I see a buck ". She pointed it out and I finally saw it. When I saw it, I knew it was a four pointer I had seen several times. Skylar was so calm, we waited until it jumped the fence where the feeder is at. He started feeding and once I asked her if she wanted to take the shot as he was quartering toward us. She said, no she would wait until it was broadside. It finally turned where she wanted it, and she sighted, and said, "Pop you ready?" I told her to go ahead. She was shooting a .243 Remington 700 and the buck was about 80 yards away. When she shot, he jumped straight up in the air and kicked his back legs out like a mule. He did a "death run" into the fence and jumped out of the pasture. He ran about 100 yards where we recoved him. He was a solid 4 pointer, with a broken brow tine with enough left to hang a ring. So for a youngun's first buck he was a five pointer. After the shot, she was so excited. This was her first buck and her second year of hunting. Not bad for an 8 year old.
