Jig Color

Just got a question on jig color When fishing in 13 to 17 ft of water not clear but not muddy, somewhere in between. What is your favorite color? Also Do you think water temp has anything to do with jig color? Just wondering.

This is my goto color in stianed water. Sometimes I use a glow head I make.

Red & Chartreuse. Stained water crappie killer for sure.

Hard to beat red & chartreuse. Pink & white is another good color combo. Once the water hits <70 degrees I mainly fish jigs, above 70 degrees minnows seem to produce better for me.

Same conditions that we deal with here at Nimrod,AR daily. Top picks are Pink/Chart., Pink/White, and always Red/Chart.

Just so happens I had a special that ran not long ago where I had clear water jigs and stained water jigs. Not all of my favorites in here, but I do like them all. Oh and this pic is the stained water colors.

For stained water conditions, I like a dark body/light tail combo. Something on the order of black, blue, or green ... and usually with a chartreuse tail. Contrast is what I'm shooting for, so the bait is noticable in the depths.

Water temps do have something to do with jig color ... in that cold water makes it easier for fish to see things clearer. Warmer water clouds their vision, a little, so they may strike a lure more on impulse rather than acceptance of it being something they normally eat.

Listen to these guys. They know their stuff when it comes to jigs. slabbandit sent me some of those pink/chartreuse jigs he's talking about, and they definitely work as advertised in stained water. crappiepappy is onto something with the water temp and color too. I always seem to do better on a more natural color in colder water like pumpkin pepper or something similar. It has to point to better eyesight in cold water making it easier for the fish to see, and harder to fool with a bright jig. I use a lot of minnows in the winter though, so that color is always just right.

Orange and Chartruese is hard to beat in stained water. Another option to try is anything with contrasting colors like an orange head, black body, char. tail hair jig.
