Truman usually gets enough wind that for the most part it stays open.I have only broke ice a couple times over the years.
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

Hm I seem to remember a trip we could not break the ice. At least the quarry was open.
