Bamboo Attractor

I've seen references made to Bamboo attractors. Can someone explain these to me. Is this bamboo the same as cane that grows alongside a river bank? what would be the best application for sinking them. If these are put out now what areas and depth would be best. How long does the bamboo stay before rotting away? Thanks for the help
