if you are slow trolling jigs you will probably run a little shallower with heavier line....not much but a little.
If I'm trolling with a 1/16th oz jig does anyone have an idea if the 8 pound test will make the jig run deeper than the 6 and by how much?

Your jigs will run shallower with larger line diameters.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
With all other variables being the same, it is my understanding that because a larger diameter line will have more surface area, therefore it will have more drag and will be shallower.
Try some #4 to go deeper.
I long line troll and almost always use #6 but I will use some #4 on occasion. Sometimes if I want to go deeper and I'm using #6 I will either use a heavier jig or tie on 2 jigs about one foot apart. However, I don't think tying on two 1/16 jigs will go as deep as one 1/8 due to the additional plastic body of the additional jig causing more drag but it is deeper than one 1/16.
Lighter line will get it to the depth faster. IMHO The same principle applies as under a slip bobber. Use the lightest line and slip float you can get away with depending on the type of structure you are fishin.

I have much better feel with lighter line. 2# has really good feel and drop but sucks in the brush or running into other species. 4# is about the best compromise for jigging and castability for light jigs. If you are using weights like 1oz with your jigs id go with the 8# but if you just drifting a jig 1/16 maybe 2 of them i think id go with the 6#. 8# isnt going to cast a 1/32 jig worth anything.

at the moment I use #8 on my spider rig setup. In Feb long line trolling starts up on Lake Weiss in Ala. They should be in about 14 foot of water hanging at around the 10 foot mark. I used 6 pound last year and trolled about .9 to 1.1 mph. Just wondering if I should re rig my reels back to 6 for this instead of keeping the 8 on them
you could let out a little more line & keep your 6lb or 8lb. test. slow the boat & let out some line & you will get there!

According to a video on YouTube by Kelley Mathews,
- 1/32 jig on #6 will run 2-4' deep at .7MPH
- 1/24 jig on #6 will run 5-8' deep at .7MPH
- 1/16 jig on #6 will run 8-11' deep at .7MPH
Here is the link. He starts talking about running depths at 6:40
