Thanks for the info, pretty handy. Semper Fi
Happened upon this slick little guide/book at a neighbors yard sale.
Anyone interested in this type information?
Big difference in amount of "feet back" between mono and super braids.

There are two books that I have found interesting Precision Casting and Precision trolling. They can be seen here.

Sample chart
OK Gang, being that my plan of attack for this coming weekend is trolling Shad Raps, and I wanted these easy to understand charts(below) and info, I thought I might share them with the Crappie.com community for anyone
that is interested.
If you wish to use these charts, here are some things you will want to consider.....
1. I chose the SRR04 and SRR05 (RS Plastic Shad Raps) over the balsa Shad Raps because there is a bigger depth window for the plastic.
2. I chose the SRR04 and SRR05 because they are the size of lure/minnow
that a average Crappie might be interested in.
3. I chose 10/2 Power Pro because that is what I troll with.
4. Not including the lip, the SRRSO4 is 1-1/2" long...the SRRS05 is 2" long.
5. Here are some quotes from the "Rapala Team" that you will also want to
consider.
"Surprisingly, speed has very little effect on depth predictions when using conventional floating/diving crankbaits within a typical speed range.""For any crankbait, the distance the lure is let behind the boat (rod tip) is the most important determination of depth."6. The only speed ever mentioned by the "Rapala Team" is between .75 and"THE RELATIONSHIP OF ROD TIP TO WATER....
This data is based on the rod tip being placed 2' above the
surface of the water. However, we have discovered there is a direct
relationship to the rod tip and how deep the lure will run.
If the rod tip is dropped lower the lure will drop approximately the
same amount. If the rod tip is raised the lure will decrease maximum
depth of about 60% of the distance the rod is raised."
1.5 MPH
Here is an explanation of the color coding of my chart below....
Light Green = Rapala data from their book.
Yellow = My data, using percentages to fill holes that Rapala left out.
I rounded my number to the closest 6" and there could be a mistake
or two, as I calculated under the influence of Coors. (UIC)
7. These charts are based on trolling and not casting.
Note 1: I figure on covering any other depths using the original "Count Down" Rapala's CD03 and CD05 with a "bullet nose" sinker pegged in front about 2'
Note 2: This has been a tough Spring for me, now that the SLABS should be
out and suspended in deeper water, they should be easier to attack
with my 24' "toon". You ever try to turn a 24' Pontoon with four
Bandit's out.....in a 30' radius? It's tougher than Chinese
Arithmetic!!!!
Sorry about the large size of the diving curve graphic, but I wanted to make
sure they were readable and printable.
See Trolling/Diving curve below:
Holy Crappie Minnow...this is a lot easier than Moose Hunting!
