Default My idea for TM speed control

This is my idea for the speed control on my Minnkota Maxxum trolling motor.

I normally spider rig at 18-20% according to the dial on the foot pedal.

I mounted the aluminum rod to be in the exact position for my finger to rest on the rod and the trolling motor speed to be 18-20%.

Sure makes it handy not having to bend over to get to the speed dial.

Know it probably won't happen to you, but threading the end of that rod, and screwing a knob on will save a lot of misery if you ever fall just right. I knew a fellow who fell on his stick steer after having broken the knob off and didn't replace it. Impaled himself and his buddy had to pull him off the steering lever to get him to the nearest camp for help. Dang near died. I saw the blood in the boat after he was on the way to the hospital, and none of us figured he would live. Knob would have made him sore at worst. We were all grateful he wasn't fishing by himself that day. Hadn't thought about that accident for a while, till I saw that picture of that rod sticking up.

Good idea. Don't use an 8 ball for a knob. People steal them.

I agree with CP. Use the cue ball. No one wants it. They leave them out at the pool halls and no one ever steals them.:p

You can get really uptown if you replace it with a Hurst shifter and a cue ball top, lol. Great idea. I truly believe crappie fishermen are the most innovative of all.
