    Default Fished Smithville last night

    Crappies were hitting like crazy.
3 of us had our limits in an hour and a half.

I was getting some very shallow-like 6 inches deep next to the bank.

Glad to hear from someone about Smithville... Wondered how the rain had affected the crappie.

Still shallow? Thought they had moved deeper. Any with eggs or were they just in shallow feeding?

    Thanks for the update.

I fished at 11 ft and pretty close to bank.
    Some still have eggs.

Cook, are you looking for shad at smithville? only place i found them last year was in the camp branch area. just go on the other side of the bridge, you'll see a large metal telephone pole/power line that is in the water.

If you really want shad I suggest you come down to Longview. In the evenings the water is boiling with them. One throw with the net in the right spot and you'll need two people to bring it on board.

I always run there the night before we hit Perry and catch them, then sick them on ice in a thick styrofoam box that they ship steaks in. You can also freeze them for longer term storage with ziplocks. They hold up pretty well.
