Made it out on the ice this morning before the Big Meal. The temps weren't bad at all but the wind was brutal. If you didn't have a shelter with you, it was tough.
Four of us ended up in the same place and all went home with a limit of crappies. Many small fish were caught but we did end up with a lot of 10 - 11" fish.
Best baits? You name it. Dave did the best with minnows, Kris and Darryl with waxworms, and I did the best with a small hair jig with no live bait added.
Ice thickness was great at 6". Tomorrow we head to another small first ice lake. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
Here's half of my limit before I moved the shelter to find more fish.
Dave K ended up with a nice batch of fish to take home.
My son, Kris, did pretty good. Here's an 11 incher.
Darryl E joined in on the fun. We all went home with a limit (10 each) and probably caught 60-70 fish total.
It was COLD without a shelter. It was the wind that made it almost unbearable.
These small pike were kept for pickling. My son's recipe is the best!
Darryl looks like he's freezing.
Cool weather but still a great time to be on the ice! This is just the start of it all.
