Purple H & H "Cocahoes" wreak death and destruction on specks, reds, flounders, et al across the Louisiana coast. So do my purple flies. And they work just as well in clear water as in that which is not so clear (Grungy!).

What's your favorite plastics for specks, and what colors? I picked up a bunch of Saltwater Assassins in Sea Mullet and Goldfish, and DOA CAL Series with the paddle tail in Electric Chicken, Key Lime Pie, and Rootbeer/Chartreuse tail.
Also have a few stand by 3" curly tail grubs in different colors.

2 colors that I will not go on the water with out are the LSU sand eel jr and the glow and chrt. sand eel jr. Here lately it seems they will hit anything as long as it has a chrt. tail. I also like the new penny gulp shrimp for reds.

SMILE- A curve that can set a lot of things straight!
My favorite by far is A smoke deadly dudley (the big size) next in line is the tsunami swin shad sea trout pattern especially good in clear water. of course yo cant go wrong with lsu or black and chartreuse bayou chub. In the dead of winter when the water if cold there are days when a chartreuseH & H split tail beetle will catch them every cast and you can throw every favorite bait you got and catch nothing almost. beyond that the best bait is whatever you believe and have confidence in. Confidence is more important that the bait or color most of the time although there are some baits that are definitely better for catching big trout (deadly dudley and norton sand eels to name a couple big sluggos work great to)
Although not an avid saltwater fisherman, I was turned on to swimbaits last year by a friend of mine who fishes a lot of saltwater. Various colors from yellows and chartreuse to darker blues and greens from the different makers seem to work well when casting and reeling, bouncing off the bottom or used under a float.
