I use 8 pound when I troll.
I don't use a swival on mine.Just a loop Knot
I'm going to try my hand at longline trolling when I go to Kerr. I plan to use PowerPro line terminated with a small swivel. Then tie a 2 foot leader (4lb test) with a roadrunner on the end. Does this sound right?

We use 4 and 6 pound test longlineing with a loop knot,we don't worry too much about looseing jigs ,we buy em and loosem by the hundreds.
I use either 10# Power Pro or 6# Mr Crappie and like the Power Pro better because you feel so much more even trolling. When you find them keep going over them using the same route. If need be use markers to show your turning spots for the contour you are folling. So when you catch one make sure to see the water depth and stay on that.
If I use a mono leader I just tie it on using the Uni Knot. I also like using the little No knot things so changing colors is easy. Not necessary though.
Also if there is any Hydrilla on that lake it should pay off at the right depth.
Good Luck,

OK, Mr. Ignorance here.
I row on our lake. GPS shows anything from drifting sideways at .3 Mph to rowing in a straight line for short distances at .7 to 1.2 Mph.
When I row I usually troll two lines out the back of the boat with RoadRunners. Or flyrods with Clousers n' some other things.
I always use a tiny swivel and 6# or some times a 4# leader.
Only one Road runner or a Beetle spin on each line.
I've caught Bass and BLuegill on that rigging, but no Crappie.
What am I doing wrong?
Explain what you guys are talking about when you say long line trolling.
I just wish I could be better at fishing. Or maybe luckier!:D
I know everyone says this but ya'll need to hunt down fishdoc and ask him about this. he talks about longline trolling, and as much as he fishes I'm sure he's tried it all.
the only thing I don't like about superlines is they are expensive, hard to untangle and they always end up getting fuzzy, that being said I bought about six spools of 4 lb. fireline with a 1 lb. diam. for a steal out of a bargain box for 3 bucks each and that stuff would allow a jig to go to the bottom in 20 feet of water like it was nothin. " real fast", the braid may act different tho.
Nothing but Power Pro on all my reels all year round. I love the sensitivity.
