Default Lake Cassidy Crappie night with JimmyD

Well I thought old Jimmy boy would do up the report, must still be starry eyed over catching his first Crappie with the master!

Jimmy and I decided to fish one of western Wa finest crappie lakes. Lake Cassidy up here in Marysville. We got to lake at about 5pm, I explained to JimmyD that it might be a tad early for the slabs but we will give it a try near dusk. Cassidy you see is a morning or evening bite crappie lake. Upon getting to lake there was about 10 boats out. I saw at least 20 very BIG triploids caught in middle of lake on power bait nuggets. Jimmy and i were not interested in the old mighty triploid. We gave it a BASS shot for awhile. No action on the bass but It was very bassy feeling out there. Well it got to about 730pm and I said its about crappie time! We moved to my secret hole on the south side of the lake. There were two nice guys already waiting for crappie time. In talking with them we found out one guy Frank, is the webmaster of nwfishing.com website. (correct me if I am wrong jimmy, I think that is the website) he commented on liking our website. Anyway back to the fish. I really wanted to prove my crappie knowledge to the lad so I rigged him up a black with chartreuse jig tipped with a crappie nugget. I also told jimmy about the crappie pattern at this lake. Generally the males come in about now like Slabking said about Lake Union. The fishing is best from about mid June to Mid August here. I also told him that just to watch for the crappie circles. The crappie here feed on bugs on water near sunset and you will see mini about 2 foot crop circles appear on water when they start feeding. Well Jimmy ever the fast learner and fishing expert spots his first crop circle. I tell him to drop his bobber near it. Almost instantly CRAPPIE ON! Jimmyd proceeded to catch one of the biggest Cassidy slabs I have seen. It must have gone a lb to a lb and a half BIGGUN! I had gotten jimmy in to his first panfish

Well then it was the masters turn, I put on a small orange to clear jig and nailed a nice one. Then I started to nail em one after another but very small.

Well it was getting very dark and the bats were starting to do there nightly buzz on us. We decided to leave the rest for another day.

Jimmy will post some pics as will I.

On the way out we learned a cool new way to fish for cats at Cassidy. Frank and his other Nave friend had developed this at Cassidy for channels and bulls and it works.

After everyone is gone from boat launch and water is very still the cats roam around lake feeding. So they set up there pole with about 3 foot leader and no weight and put a lighted bobber on it. They then rig with a big nightcrawler and cast out into boat launch lagoon area to wards mouth where it meets lake. Then the bite is on. They said in a couple hours and six pack of time they will usually catch 3-5 cats doing this.
Jimmy and I cant wait to try!

Well thats it from Lake Cassidy Slabfest
