I don't see a defrence in the catch, I don't tear up as many tubes with the head on the outside, and i like using the bait pump for nibblets
I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on whether to put the jig head in the tube or outside. I fish a lot of trout with the tubes and most of the brands I buy in CA have the heads in the tubes. I have fished both for crappie and was wondering if there is a benefit one way or the other? Both ways have caught crappie but I was wondering if I could be catching more?

When i first started out after crappie i was using the inside tube heads and i had a few bites that tore the body off. The new bodies did not want to go on without tearing either, I have not used an inside head since. The only way to get them on was to retie.

I use both I get tired of pushing a tube body back up to the jig head. I think on tube jigs the weight on the inside is better, but I fish them on both.
can't catch'em at home
I am kinda partial to these guys. They are weedless and easy to rig and with very little tube damage.

use em both ways although you gotta watch what size tube you're using or you can split them when putting it in
Fatman
and the tube is hollow ... I thread it on the jighead. If it starts to split/tear, or keeps coming down on the hook (from short strikes, b'gills, or bumping cover) ... then I glue it
I don't have that trouble, though ... when I use a solid body tube
And, should it start to split open ... a little heat, to the split, is all I need to be good to go :p
... cp
Out-seems to give the Crappie a more natural feel when they bite.

Three reasons I like the jighead on the outside. One, you've instantly added another color to your setup; two, you got a little bigger profile jig; and three, you can inject crappie nibbles into the jig.
