You could go to a high school track or football field and just walk it off. I've been using a line counter, though. They're cheap, and they work great.
I bought a 150 yard spool of that 10 lb. PowerPro that supposedly has the diameter of 2 lb. mono. I'm thinking of trying to spread it across 2 different reels and have half on one and half on the other. I will make sure to have some mono down on each spool first so that I get a full spool by the time I am done.
The challenge for me is to only use about half of the PowerPro when I spool it onto the first reel. I have no line counters. Ideas?

What I've done before in the front yard, is to tie the tag end to something,
then hang the spool on a screwdriver stuck into the same "something"
(NOT ONE OF MY OLD LADY'S TREES ) hook the line in between
over something else (nuther screwdriver) and take off walking.
It WILL get rough on the old finger if you try to let it slide across it :D
Anyway, you only gotta have 75 yards or so of "yard" to do it that way.
Keep watching the spool, when it quits spinning, go back and even up the
tag ends, come back and cut it at the loop - clear as mud?

Use a yard stick and pull it off and measure that way.
2 ideas.
1. take it to a shop where they coud spool it for you and use a line counter
2. If both reels are the same model... Spool it all on to 1 reel, count how many cranks it took. Then use half that many back onto a second reel.
1st determine line retrieve rate of reel.example 1full turn of handle equals ? inches of line retrieved.A common # is about 27in. per turn.75 yards is 2700 inches. So 100 turns gets you in the ball park.Don't know what you're using it for but I put different amounts of braid on reels depending on how I use them.Verticle fishing for crappie I only put on about 3 times the deepest depth I fish. The stuff will straighen most any hook and will last forever.I put more on trolling and casting rods (if using braid). This way I don't have a bunch of the $braid on there I'm not using.I back the reel with some cheap mono.
as the reel fills up each turn equals more line
Spool the reels and start fishin.
Spool it all on one, tie on to the other and reel till they look about the same
