Default OT: need help from some of the guys from up north

Way off topic, but was hoping someone on here could help me. I got a Mossberg 500 field/deer combo and am wanting to shoot some slugs this deer season. The gun came with a rifled slug barrel and scope as well as a smooth bore barrel. I am using the smooth for doves, squirrel, rabbit, etc. and wanted to use the slug barrel for deer. Haven't done too much research yet, but getting a few conflicting answers. What type slug do you shoot out of which type barrell? I had a guy tell me one thing and a minute later told me the exact opposite. So. . .

    Smooth Barrel = Rifled Slug
    Rifled Barrel = Saboted Slug
Rifled Barrel = Saboted Slug or Rifled Slug

Also any suggestions on specific brand/style of slugs to shoot?

    Any answers would be appreciated.

A sabot slug is designed to be used with a rifled barrel. A sabot slug will not be consistently accurate in a smooth bore barrel - there are no rifling lands in the barrel to spin the sabot as designed,

The rifle barrel is for Sabot slugs only. The Rifled Slug is for the smooth bore. That is a fact. If you shoot the rifle slug through a rifle barrel it can and will damage your barrel. If you shoot the Sabot slugs in a smooth barrel it will not get the spin it needs on the bullet to stabalize and will tumble when it leaves the barrel. Hints the word rifle slug and rifle barrel. The rifle slug spins when it goes down the smooth barrel. The Sabot is smooth so when it travels down a rifled barrel that causes it to spin.
So Rifle slug for smooth bore and Sabot for rifle barrel.

As far as the type slug to use just try a few and see which one shoots the best in the gun.

If you have any further questions just ask the manufactures.

    Hope this helps.

Appreciate the responces guys. The information is what I originally "thought", but due to lack of experience and some misinformation, I wanted to run it by some knowledgable slug-gunners. Thanks again!
