I use 6 lb. test, Sufix Hi- Vis Yellow right now. Trilene is good also.
I think most guys use 6 lb. test.

What brands, colors, test, of line are you using for longline trolling jigs/minnows?

6lb for me.Don't really matter what brand, but I do like the yellow color,it easy to see which way your lines are pulling behind the boat.

Fried Crappie.... "The real thing".
Anybody got a link on how to, when to and where to long line troll? I'm not sure I know what ya'll are really talking about.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
It does not really matter the name brand but when I am long line trolling it is always with 6 lb line. I will use several different brands including Stren Original, Suffix, and Andi Line. I like to use the Suffix and Andi in the Hi-Vis Yellow. It helps you see all of your lines a lot better and helps you from getting your lines crossed up. I'm sure there are other good lines out there but these are the ones I like. Like I said it is always 6 pound and I'm always pulling Southern Pro Hot Grubs!

I am no expert, but I have done it. Long lining is when you fish out the side of the boat, while moving forward, with the baits following using different weights to allow fishing at different depths at the same speed. Most of the time jigs are used, but minnows are allowed. Try to use different length rods to stagger the trail pattern to lessen tangles. Long lining is utilized with a faster speed that slow trolling. Slow trolling means exactly that .3-.5 mph, where as, long lining you can adjust your speed to control depth of jigs or to what the fish react to. Don't hesitate to use spinners. You should be going fast enough to work safety pin type spinners. To my understanding, the best time to use this technique is when fish get real spooky. Pre and post spawn, summer, and early fall. Check out crappie magazine's website and look for past articles. I read one a few issues ago. Hope this helps.
