Default Follow Up On: Your Biggest Fish While Crappie Fishing Other Than a Crappie.

There was a post a few weeks back about "what was your biggest fish other than a crappie while crappie fishing"? Well I now have a new one. My nephew Lance, a friend Brian, and I were fishing Caney this morning. I knew I felt a hit but thought I had missed the fish and hung into the top we were fishing. All of a sudden the top took off. Was fishing 4 lb Stren on an 11 foot Crappie Getter rod with a Martin fly reel and landed a 7 lb 15 oz Blue Cat. Without a doubt, this is the biggest non Crappie while Crappie fishing that I have ever landed.

A couple years ago I had a client catch a 17.5-pound gar while crappie fishing with an 11-foot B&M Buck's Graphite, 8-pound Berkley XT and a #6 Light Wire Aberdeen Cricket Hook.

Last year we caught several in the 7 to 15-pound range on the same tackle.

Don't have pics to show, but I caught a 5 1/2 lb largemouth while wade fishing for crappie in AR in a buckbrush flat. I felt the bump and set the hook, that rascal exploded out the back of the buckbrush and threaded my line thru two more bushes. I hollered up my partner and had him go to the bass and net him for me, the fish at that point was about 60 yards away. I have to admit I would have never got him back thru the sticks, but it sure was fun. Don't see how the 4 lb test made it thru all that brush?!!?
