Cold weather fishin

I know its about summer time. But I am wondering how the Crappie bite is during the cold months. Are the fish deep? Or is it even worth trying. Im not one to sit out on the shore or in the boat in the middle of the day with the sun beating down on me...lol.......im more of a cold weather type guy :-)

November and December is my favorite time of year to fish. That's when I catch my biggest fish. When the water temperatures get down into the mid to upper 40's, the big ones stack up on the drops and ledges.

October to May. Crappie Time!! And I agree with 1weezer, they seem to be bigger and thicker.

Thats exactely what I was hoping to hear! I will get more use out of my little boat during the cooler weather for sure. Of course I will not only be fishin for crappie but also bluegill and catfish as well. Gotta keep all options open

hi Glen down here in so. ga in the summer we fish at night . if it isent to hat .day time the weakin the boat traffick is to heavy during the day . so it is late nigt or early morning .

I catch my biggest fish during the winter, don't have to worry about all the fishermen & women running all over the place, the colder the better, it's kind of like hunting. there's a lot of guy's that want go hunting when its below 25 degree's. If you want to find the big buck's go hunting when it's about 8 to 10 degree's, its get's the up and moving and seperate's the men from the boy's. same with fishin when it get bad cold people want go out in it to fish. of course i guess its all in if you can stand it i love it. i should have been a polar bear.

GlenC;; I like it when the rain starte's turing into snow and there's about 2 or 3 inches on the deck of the boat. and you look around and there ain't nobody in sight for miles. Then i Think to myself You must be an idiot out here in 20 degree weather.Then it hit's me

Come on guys lets keep it toned down about winter crappie fishing. I'm starting to see more boats on the water during the winter now. We don't want the word to be spread around too much about how great winter crappie fishing can be.

Once you get the crappie located they are bunched up pretty good and they don't shift around and disappear as much as spawning crappie do during weather changes. Find them one day and they will pretty much be in the same place the next day requardless of weather changes.

I try and tell people that in winter fishing I can regulate my comfort with proper attire but in the summer time you can only take off so many clothes and you will still get roasted and fried when its hot.

It is really great to be out crappie fishing with snow comming down. Also to break ice with the boat to get to the crappie is also interesting just make sure you don't break your trailer lights when launching the boat.

Most people think I'm weird (and probably am) to prefer dark overcast days in both winter and summer. As a upland bird hunter I prefer cloudy days because the birds are easier to see as apposed to the stark contrast and glare one has on sunny days. As a fisherman I always prefer to fish on a cloudy day. Give me a dark gloomy day any time even though I know the sun will tend to hold the fish on the shady side of cover.

Just had a basal cell carcinoma taken off my face last week. I have been religiously useing the greasy old SPF 45 sunscreen that always burns my eyes later in the day. Now that summer is almost here I have more exposed skin that needs greased up. What a pain summer time fishing can be. I always apply it at home before leaving the house so my hands can be properly scrubbed so as to not leave unwanted scents on any baits that are touched. I think proper use of sunscreen says that it should be applied later on in the day but don't like getting my hands greased up on the boat.

Just may have to try night fishing some more and be more careful of those nasty line tangles that I have experienced in the past at night using open faced spinning reels.

Again lets just try and keep the pleasures of winter time crappie fishing info under our hats.

I shure do love crappie fishing , but I just dont fish to much when it starts getting in 90s.When the line freezes to eyes on the jig pole its time to catch some biguns. I LOVE FISHING WHEN ITS COLD !
