    Default what time of year?

What time of year should crappie start to have eggs? I cleaned some today I caught out of the pond that appeared to have eggs but they were not swollen up.

Female crappie "may" have eggs in them at any time of the year ... size of sac determined by time of year/location.

The progression goes something like this :

Spring Spawn - egg sacs at full size/eggs mature, dropped in multiple beds
Post Spawn - egg sacs mostly empty, but some may have leftovers
Summer - leftover eggs absorbed, new egg sac develops
Fall - egg sac grows larger, as more eggs are produced & grow larger
Winter - eggs develop, but at a slowed rate
Early Spring Prespawn - eggs develop at faster rate, with warming temps
Prespawn - eggs near maturity, fish begin migration to beds

So, as you can see, there is the possibility of a female Crappie having eggs at most any time during the year. Water temps & available foodsources determine how fast they develop.

    ... cp

Turkey I actually asked this same question last week because my father in law and I caught several with small egg sacks. The ruling was they start to develop eggs now for next spring. Look at the thread "got a crappie question"

Caught a couple big females yesterday that had small sacks. First time I noticed it this fall though.
